Egypt's mobile subscriber base stood at 125.65 million lines in the first quarter of 2026, according to indicators published by the national regulator.
In a market where the subscriber count already exceeds the population, headline growth says little about demand. Multi-SIM use, data-only lines and machine connections all inflate the total. The meaningful signals sit underneath it: how much data an average line consumes, and how that consumption is distributed geographically.
Why the composition matters
Capacity planning follows usage, not headcount. A governorate with fewer lines but heavier video consumption can require more investment than a more populous one with lighter usage patterns.
That is why the spectrum released in February's award matters more in some districts than others, and why fixed broadband expansion changes mobile load as well: households on reliable fixed connections shift traffic off the mobile network.
