Advertising Policy

Advertising and editorial are separate

Cairo Stream accepts advertising to help fund its journalism. Advertising has no influence on what we cover or how we cover it. Advertisers do not see articles before publication, receive no advance notice of coverage, and cannot request, delay, alter or withdraw a story.

Buying advertising does not lead to coverage, and being covered does not require advertising. Our funding and independence rules are set out in full on the ownership and funding page.

How advertising is labelled

• Every advertising placement is visually distinct from editorial content and carries a clear "Advertisement" label.
• Advertising is never styled to imitate a Cairo Stream headline, byline, article card or news alert.
• Advertising is placed in reserved slots. It is never inserted into the middle of an article's reporting in a way that could be mistaken for our own words.

What we do not accept

• Paid articles, sponsored posts or advertorials presented as Cairo Stream reporting.
• Paid inclusion of a company, product or person in an article.
• Affiliate or commission links inside editorial articles.
• Advertising that is misleading, deceptive or makes unverifiable claims.
• Advertising for illegal services, or for products that cannot be lawfully sold in Egypt.
• Political advertising and advertising for political campaigns or parties.
• Advertising that discriminates against or demeans people on the basis of religion, ethnicity, nationality, gender, disability or sexual orientation.
• Ad formats that harm the reading experience: auto-playing audio, pop-ups over article text, interstitials before content, or trackers that profile readers across other websites.

Reader privacy in advertising

Cairo Stream does not run behavioural advertising and does not sell or share reader data with advertisers. Placements are sold by section and position, not by reader profile. Our data practices are described in the privacy policy.

Corrections and disclosure

Where a commercial relationship exists with a company named in an article, we disclose it in that article. If we get an advertising label wrong, we fix it under the same standard as an editorial error — see the corrections policy.
