Analysis: two years of Egyptian funding rounds, dated one by one

MNT-Halan reached a $1.4bn valuation in June 2026. The Sylndr, Flend and Munify rounds often cited alongside it all closed in 2025 — a distinction this analysis keeps explicit.

This is analysis, not a funding announcement. It covers events spread across two calendar years, and each one is dated below rather than grouped into a single moment.

The 2026 event

MNT-Halan reached a $1.4bn valuation following the first closing of an investment round led by Al Ahly Capital, the investment arm of the National Bank of Egypt. The first closing was announced in June 2026, and the round was described at the time as ongoing, with a further closing expected.

The 2025 rounds

The three raises frequently cited alongside MNT-Halan are older and much smaller, and none of them occurred at the same time as the 2026 valuation:

Sylndr, a used-vehicle commerce platform, closed a $15.7m Series A equity round announced on 19 May 2025. Flend, an FRA-licensed digital SME lender, raised $3m in blended equity and debt in a seed round announced in July 2025. Munify, a cross-border neobank for the Egyptian diaspora, raised $3m in a seed round led by Y Combinator, announced in late August and early September 2025.

What the dated sequence shows

Read in order, the pattern is not a sudden 2026 surge. It is a market where modest 2025 seed and Series A activity concentrated in fintech and asset-backed models, followed a year later by a large late-stage repricing of the market's established unicorn — with a domestic bank, rather than a foreign venture fund, leading it.

What investors are buying

The common thread across all four is revenue that can be measured immediately and, frequently, an asset base. Lending books, vehicle inventory and payment flows are legible to investors in a way that pre-revenue software is not in the current climate.

The infrastructure dependency

Almost all of these models depend on payment rails reaching scale, the subject of our report on instant payments and financial inclusion, and on regulatory clarity around personal data, covered in our data protection explainer.

What to watch

Follow-on rounds rather than first raises, and the second closing of the MNT-Halan round. A funding environment's health is visible in whether companies can raise again at higher valuations, not in the count of announcements.
